Why can’t I remove the watermark after re-importing a Filmora free version exported video?

After purchasing a license for Filmora, if you need to get a watermark-free video, you must follow the operational logic of "re-exporting from the original project" instead of trying to "remove the watermark" from an already exported video with a watermark. The detailed instructions are as follows:

1. Core Principle: The Generation and Irreversibility of Watermarks

Videos with watermarks exported from the free version of Filmora have their watermarks embedded into the video’s pixel data during the export process, becoming a permanent part of the video file. This embedding method means that already exported videos with watermarks cannot have their watermarks directly removed by "re-importing" or using in-software features—even if you purchase a license later, you cannot strip the watermark from such finished files.

2. Correct Operation: Re-Export Using the Original Project File

The correct steps to generate a watermark-free video rely on the original Filmora project file (in .wfp format) saved during editing. This file records all editing traces (such as materials, transitions, effects, etc.) and does not have a watermark embedded. The specific steps are:
  • Open Filmora and log in to your account with the purchased license to ensure the software is activated (you can verify this in the "Account" or "Help" section).
  • Locate and open the original .wfp project file saved when you edited the video previously, and confirm that the project content matches what you edited earlier.
  • Click the "Export" button directly, select the appropriate format and parameters, and complete the export. At this point, the activated license will automatically skip the watermark-adding step, and the generated video will be watermark-free.

3. Special Case: Solution for Lost Original Project Files

If the original .wfp project file is lost, you need to re-edit using the original materials (such as unedited video clips, images, audio files) in the activated Filmora. After completing the re-editing, export the video again—this will also give you a watermark-free video. Avoid using already exported files with watermarks as editing materials, as this will make it impossible to eliminate the existing watermark.
