The common solution for preview freeze/laggy/not sync issue

There are many factors that can cause lag, freeze, and audio-video synchronization issues in Filmora's preview screen, such as the computer's hardware performance, graphics card driver, complexity of the edited video, and the resolution of the source video. You can try the following solutions:

1. Lower the Player Quality

Adjust the Player quality in the upper left corner of the preview window. When the preview is lagging or the screen is delayed, it is recommended to lower the preview quality. You can try 1/2 Quality or 1/4 Quality to see if it can improve the issue, as shown in the picture below

2. Create Proxy files

1) Manually create proxy files

  • In the Project Media, select the video(s) with lagging preview (you can select multiple or all), right-click and choose "Create Proxy File".

  • The software will start creating the proxy and display a green circular progress bar. Once the progress bar is complete and shows the letter "P", it means the proxy has been created successfully.

  • After the proxy is created, re-add the Project Media materials to the timeline for editing and previewing.

2) Auto-create proxy files

  • Open the software settings Filmora > Preferences > Performance
  • Check "Automatically create proxies when media resolution is higher than:", then select the video resolution for which you need to create proxies.
  • After clicking "Apply", the software will automatically create proxy files every time you add a video with a resolution equal to or higher than the set video resolution.

  • When a red line appears on the timeline, it indicates that the current processing is in the preview rendering state.
  • Click the preview rendering button on the left side of the toolbar to start preview rendering.
  • After the preview rendering is completed, the red line will turn into a green line

2) Auto background render

  • Open the software settings Filmora > Preferences > Performance
  • check "Background Render" and Select the interval time for preview rendering, which is set to 5 seconds by default.
  • After clicking "Apply", the program will automatically start preview rendering after waiting for the set render interval time when a red line appears on the timeline after editing.

4. Switch GPU acceleration status

1) Check and confirm the status of GPU accelerated rendering and encoding. You can do this through the GPU Acceleration module under Filmora > Preferences > Performance.

  • If the two buttons below are checked (green), it means that GPU acceleration is enabled.
  • If the two buttons are not selected (white), it means that GPU acceleration is disabled.
  • If the two buttons are grayed out, it means that GPU acceleration cannot be turned on.

2) When you encounter lagging or synchronization issues in the preview, you can try switching the GPU acceleration status and restarting the software. In other words:

  • if your GPU acceleration was previously enabled, disable it and restart the software to try again;
  • if your GPU acceleration was previously disabled, enable it and restart the software to try again.
  • If your GPU acceleration button is grayed out and cannot be selected, you can refer to step 5 for updating the GPU driver.

5. Update Graphics Driver solution

1) Confirm your Graphics card model: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/learning-center/how-to-check-gpu

2) Search/download and install latest version of Graphics driver.

3) After graphics driver update successfully, restart computer to check if issue is fixed.
