Why are the materials lost when I reopen a project file I'm creating?

When you save a project, Filmora records the exact storage paths of all imported media files. If you subsequently move or rename these original files, the software will display missing media alerts upon reopening the project because it cannot locate files at their previously recorded paths.

Troubleshooting Missing Media Files

Scenario 1: Files Imported from SD Card or Mobile Device

  • Solution: Before reopening your project:

    • Reconnect the original SD card or mobile device to your computer

    • Ensure the storage device uses the same drive letter/connection path

Scenario 2: Files Imported from Local Storage

Case A: Files Were Deleted

  • Solution:

    1. Restore files from Recycle Bin to their original locations

    2. Reopen your project

Case B: Files Were Moved or Renamed

  • Solution:

    1. Open your project file

    2. When the "Locate Missing Media" dialog appears:

      • Click "Locate Selected" to manually reconnect each file

      • Navigate to the file's new storage location

    3. After relinking all files, click "OK" to load the project

Pro Tips

  • Maintain consistent file organization during editing

  • Use Filmora's "Collect Project Files" feature (File > Archive Project) to create self-contained project packages

  • For team collaborations, store media in shared network locations rather than local drives
